HALF CENTURY OF LOVE

Don’t Trust Anyone Over 30!

That was the mantra being broadcast to young people in the 70’s. Well, since Nasr and I were under 30, we were ok.

1976 was the bicentennial–200 years as a country. There was a lot of pride bandied about that year. We felt we had a lot to be proud of.

There was life before Apple! It was in 1976 that Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded this now huge conglomerate. We landed on Mars for the first time, Nadia Comaneci got the first perfect 10 in gymnastics at age 14, the first Rocky came out and most importantly, all the women saw Farrah’s hair and we all had to have that cut.

We all listened to Silly Love Songs, by Wings. It was Number 1 in 1976. And don’t forget Elton John’s, Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.

We didn’t start out looking like grandparents. I was 21, 3 weeks away from 22 and Nasr was was 28.

To be honest, I don’t recognize that girl. 50 years can erase a lot of memories.

But we are not a sedentary old couple.

In this picture Nasr has just jumped off the boat to swim in the Adriatic Sea.

I enjoy playing in the heated pool our grandchildren.

We bike, but I have now graduated to a tricycle, which I love.

We walk the beach.

We cruise around the world with friends.

We take the grandkids and everyone else to Disneyland.

We travel the world with family. Here we are in Bologna, Italy.

We hang with friends in San Diego.

And occasionally, we take in a beautiful sunset to top off our day.

To most people being married fifty years seems like an impossibility. No, it has NOT been all fun and games. But we did the best we could, and now we look forward to working on the next 50 years.
